The Ron and Lisolee Moten award was established in 2022 to provide ongoing financial support for a total of ten students attending either Michigan State University or an HBCU.  This award will provide $5000 per year for up to 4 years of college education.  In order to qualify, the student must have at least a 2.5 GPA as a high school graduate, and for each subsequent year of college, must have a GPA of 3.0 or above in order to continue receiving the $5000 per year.

Criteria:

1. Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School or current college student.
2. Member of Fellowship Chapel for at least one year, or if not a member, a parent or grandparent be a member for at least 2 years. If the student is not a member, then the parent or grandparent must submit proof of their involvement in 1 or more auxiliaries.  
3. Submit proof of active involvement in one or more Fellowship Chapel groups or auxiliaries.
4. Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above as a new High School graduate in order to qualify for first year of the award.
5. A GPA of 3.0 is required for each year following (the sophomore, junior and senior years) in order for the student to continue to receive the annual award.
6. Student must attend either Michigan State University or an HBCU

This scholarship was established and first awarded in 1987 in memory of Fellowship Chapel’s founding pastor, Reverend James E. Wadsworth, Jr. 

Criteria: 

1.  Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School. 
2.  Member of Fellowship Chapel for two (2) or more years. 
3.  Submit proof of active involvement in three or more Fellowship Chapel groups or auxiliaries for two (2) years or more. 
4.  Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above. 
5.  Submit at least two (2) completed Community Service Forms. 
6.  Provide two (2) letters of recommendation from school official, mentor or employer. 
7.  Submit a typed, double-spaced, 250 word essay on “Pass the Salt”. Please reference Matthew 5: 13—16. 
8.  Provide statement of any extenuating circumstances you are dealing with. 
9. Complete interview with the Scholarship Committee

This scholarship was established by Fellowship Chapel’s First Lady, Monica G. Anthony, in 2008. Lady Monica is seeking high school graduates and continuing college students who desire a life of excellence. Three scholarships will be awarded. (First Lady’s personal Intonjane mentees are ineligible) 

Criteria: 

1.  Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School. 
2.  Member of Fellowship Chapel for two (2) or more years. 
3.  Submit proof of active involvement in one or more Fellowship Chapel groups or auxiliaries for two (2) or more years. 
4.  Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.0 or above. 
5.  Submit at least one (1) completed Community Service Form. 
6.  Provide one (1) letter of recommendation.

This scholarship was established by Fellowship Chapel Scholarship Committee in 2003 as an effort to reach out to the community. Nonmembers may apply.

This scholarship was established in memory of Gladys Mae Rice in 2008. As a former nursing in-structor, Ms. Rice organized Fellowship Chapel’s Health Clinic in Ghana and directed it for many years. In 2017, this scholarship was expanded in memory of Mr. Forrest “Thunder” Green, the first black chemist working for the state of Michigan. The recipient of this scholarship must show an interest and have plans to pursue a career in the health care profession, or in science. 

Criteria: 

1.  Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School. 
2.  Member of Fellowship Chapel for two (2) or more years. 
3.  Submit proof of active involvement in one or more Fellowship groups or auxiliaries. 
4.  Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5 or above. 
5.  Provide one (1) letter of recommendation from school official, mentor or employer.

This scholarship was established in 2023 in memory of the Honorable Judge Prentis Edwards, Sr.  who was a highly respected jurist. He handled numerous challenging civil and criminal cases and was known as a person of tremendous integrity, industry, with dedication to his profession and the community.  As an advocate for equal justice, he wrote scripts for mock trials for Intonjane and Isuthu, often based on historic civil rights cases and social injustices. To honor his legacy and provide for future social justice leaders, two scholarships will be awarded. 

Criteria: 

1. Candidates must pursue a Field of Study in Law, Criminal Justice, Human Rights, Social Work, Women Studies, Juvenile Justice, Diversity and Social Justice.
2. Cumulative GPA 3.0 or above for high school, and GPA of 2.5 or above for Sophomore
3. Submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation: One from school official, mentor or employer and one from a community organization/leader. Recommender must have knowledge of you, your personal qualities, character, leadership activities/abilities, and your perseverance to succeed at the university level.
4. Submit one (1) completed Community Service Form.
5. Submit an original essay, double-spaced, 300-500 words, addressing two questions: “What social justice means to you?” and “How are you influencing social justice now and in the future?”

This scholarship was established in 2014 by the Girl Scouts of Fellowship Chapel to encourage girls to pursue the highest award in Girl Scouting and to provide additional funding for Girl Scout Ambassadors graduating from high school and pursing higher education. The Fellowship Chapel Girls Scouts were established in September 1981 under the direction of Ms. Carrie Finney. Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. 

Criteria: 

1.  Be currently registered as a Girl Scout with Girl Scouts of Fellowship Chapel 
2.  Graduate from a metropolitan Detroit High School 
3.  Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.75 or above 
4.  Be an active, registered Girl Scout, currently and for the previous 3 years 
5.  Has demonstrated commitment to living by the Girl Scout promise and law. 
6.  Must submit at least three letters of recommendation from individuals representing school, community or church and the gold award coach 
7.  Must have earned the Gold Award prior to submitting the application 
8.  Submit a typed double spaced 500 word essay on “How my Gold Award project will be a lasting impact on the community”.

Anna Pate Stewart and Janice L. Knight were culinary artists who, over many decades, generously and lovingly prepared meals for the Fellowship Chapel family. Although the two never met, they shared in common the beauty they created with their cheerful and positive dispositions, their ability to see the good in others, their willingness to put the needs and happiness of others ahead of their own, and most of all, their ability to uplift others not only with their delicious food, but with the encouragement, support and compassion they freely gave. 

This award is for undergraduate, graduate or trade school students who have demonstrated a commitment to serving others and have demonstrated that commitment through their educational pursuits and community activities. 

Criteria: 

1. Graduate of a metropolitan Detroit High School 
2. Currently enrolled as a sophomore or above in college or trade school, working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree, or a certification. 
3. GPA of 2.5 or above 
4. Member of or actively involved in Fellowship Chapel for a minimum of least two years 
5. Documentation of dedicated service activities since high school 
6. Interview with Scholarship Committee

The Intonjane Training Institute is a Rites of Passage program that mentors young ladies 6-18 years of age. The Intonjane Training Institute Scholarship was established in 2022 to award Intonjane mentees with financial support in their pursuit of a higher education degree. Scholarship awardees will exhibit the epitome of “I am because we are,” by outlining how they will use their Intonjane Institute training in college and subsequently to complete the circle of sisterhood 

Criteria: 

1.  Graduate of a Metro Detroit High School 
2.  Provide proof of Acceptance to accredited institution of higher learning 
3.  20 hours of verifiable community service at the time of application 
4.  An active ITI member for at least two years, with 80% attendance 
5.  Essay or Presentation that addresses : a) The history and benefits of Rites of Passage Programs. b) How the mentee will use the tools learned from the ITI in college and beyond. c) How they plan to come back to complete the circle of sisterhood. 
6.  Develop and present a 20 minute Christian Module with the guidance of mentors 
7.  Candidate must be fully engaged in and complete the Rites of Passage Candidate Process and the Crossover ceremony

The Isuthu Institute is a vessel to assist boys’ transition into men. A Rites of Passage Program rooted in Afro-Centric Christian teachings, we aim to assist in developing boys spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, culturally, and socially into total men. 

Criteria: 

1.  Active Member of the Isuthu Institute for 2 or more years 
2.  Active Member of Fellowship Chapel or another Spiritual Institution for 1 or more years 
3.  Submit Letter of Recommendation from Mentor 
4.  Submit a letter of recommendation from a younger mentee

The Larry Sims Dream Big Scholarships were established in 2018 by Silvia & Jourdan Sims, and Gabrielle & Donnell White. The scholarships honor the legacy of an outstanding husband, father, father-in-law and mentor. Not only did Larry do all he could to help those around him dream big, he also took concrete steps to help them succeed. 

Criteria: 

1.  Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School or current college student. 
2.  Member of Fellowship Chapel for two (2) or more years. 
3.  Submit proof of active involvement in one or more Fellowship Chapel groups or auxiliaries. 
4.  Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above.

Julius Caesar Hope was a Baptist minister and civil rights leader. He was very instrumental in bringing about cooperative integration in the city of Brunswick, GA, by getting people to work together. He served as president of the Georgia State Conference of the NAACP until his appointment as director of religious affairs for the national NAACP. 

Criteria: 

1.  Current College Student (Sophomore or above) 
2.  Cumulative GPA 2.5 or above, pursuing a degree in Psychology, Sociology, Organizational Behavior or related field of study in Human Relations. 
3.  Submit (2) letters of recommendations from a school official or community activist who can speak to your leadership and advocacy for the advancement of others. 
4.  Submit an essay or present a verbal presentation (not to exceed 10 minutes) on “Being a good shepherd in the race of life while edifying the mental, emotional and personal well being of others”.

The Rev. Opal M. Simmons Reach for the Stars Scholarship is in memory of Rev. Opal M. Simmons, Fellowship Chapel’s first female Associate Minister. This scholarship established in 2012 is being sponsored by Fellowship Chapel Book Club of which Rev. Simmons was a founding member. The applicant must be a high school graduate pursuing a major in a literary or educational field. 

Criteria: 

1.  Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School 
2.  Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5 or above. 
3.  Member of Fellowship Chapel for one (1) or more years. 
4.  Submit proof of active involvement in one or more Fellowship Chapel groups or auxiliaries. 
5.  Provide a letter of recommendation from school official, mentor or employer. 
6.  Submit at least one (1) completed Community Service Form. 
7.  Submit a typed, double-spaced, one page essay on the book that had a large impact on your life and why. Discuss how it will help you in attaining your current goals.

This scholarship was established in 2023 in honor of Dr. Walter Hall, a strong advocate for Christian and Public Education.  He began the Sunday School program at Fellowship Chapel and served as Sunday School Superintendent for 29 years.  He also created the Journey Through the Bible training program for youth aspiring to become Children’s Church leaders, and taught Tuesday morning adult bible class until his death.  Dr. Hall was a Detroit Public School principal who loved supporting children through their educational pursuits, always emphasizing the need for African American youth to know their history. 

Criteria:

1. Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School
2. Member of Fellowship Chapel for at least two years
3. Active in two or more church organizations
4. Submit proof of active involvement in one or more Fellowship Chapel groups or auxiliaries.
5. Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above
6. Write an essay based on the scripture John 1:46 “Can anything good come out of Nazareth? where the power of Jesus was questioned because of where he came from. Discuss a time that current or historical figure was doubted because of where they came from and how they overcame that stigma and inspired others.

Mary and the late William Marshall were charter members whose support was integral in so many ways in Fellowship’s early years. Their early commitment was exemplified when they mortgaged their own home to help pay for the first church building. “Bill” served as first chairman of our Trustee Board. Mary, a dedicated nurse, choir member, and one of the original “Boosters” for Rev. Wadsworth, has served in many capacities throughout the years.

This Scholarship was established by the Thornton Family in 2021, in honor of Sara & John Thornton and their nine children Jacquelyn, Mikael, Mildred, Gwendolyn, Anthony, Robert, Millicent, Tracey, & Stacey. Both Sara & John stressed the importance of a higher education for their children to achieve their goals in life. The Thorntons are seeking a high school graduate or a college student who wishes to achieve greatness by continuing a higher education.

1.  Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School, or currently attending college.

The Dr. Donnell Ray Cravens, Ph.D Scholarship was established by the Cravens family in 2018 to honor Dr. Cravens’ pursuit of learning and to reward a student’s hard work in the community and academically. He prided himself on achieving through advanced education. The recipient of this award demonstrates leadership within their community, excellence within their academics, and the desire to attend Wayne State University or Central Michigan University—the schools where Dr. Cravens earned his degrees. 

Criteria: 

1.  Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School. 
2.  Enroll in Wayne State University or Central Michigan University 
3.  Member of Fellowship Chapel for two (2) or more years.

Booker Moten was a passionate educator who devoted his time to providing students with step-by-step instructions on applying for and getting accepted into their chosen institutions.  Keeping in close contact, he believed in starting with students in the early grades to prepare them for their college careers. He taught  them how to be confident and relentless in obtaining all the awards and grants needed to pay for higher education.  He was known as “Yo Teacher Man.”

Criteria:

1. Current junior or senior in college
2. Active member of Fellowship Chapel during high school years
3. GPA 3.0
4. Transcript verifying full time enrollment and completion of at least 48 college credits.
5. One page resume
6. Letter of recommendation from college professor, Counselor/Advisor, coach, or mentor

The Kris and Curtis Greene HOPE Scholarship was established by Dr. Curtis Greene in 2016. Dr. Greene has his PHD in biology, and is the Science Department Chair at Wayne County Community College District.This scholarship is created for students majoring in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) field.

Criteria: 

1.  Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School 
2.  Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above. 
3.  Submit proof of active involvement of at least (2) years in one or more Fellowship Chapel groups or auxiliaries. 
4.  Provide evidence of leadership abilities in school, church or community. 
5.  Pursuing a STEM major 
6.  Submit a 500 word essay on “Scientists who have Inspired Me”

This scholarship was established by Fellowship Chapel member Ingrid Renee Turnbore, in 2013 in honor of her mother, Florence B. Turnbore. This scholarship is specifically for students who will be majoring in culinary arts. The ideal candidate would be one who will attend a HBCU, although this is not required. 

Criteria: 

1.  Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School. 
2.  Member of Fellowship Chapel for two (2) or more years. 
3.  Pursuing a major in culinary arts. 
4.  Submit proof of active involvement in one or more Fellowship Chapel groups or auxiliaries for two (2) or more years. 
5.  Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above. 
6.  Submit at least one (1) completed Community Service Form. 
7.  Provide two (2) letters of recommendation.

This scholarship was established in memory of Ms. Gloria L. Bright in 2014. Ms. Gloria L Bright’s career path was one of giving service to people in need; first, as a social worker, then as a registered nurse. She loved Fellowship Chapel and she loved helping others.

2.  Member of Fellowship Chapel for at least one or more years 
3.  Submit proof of one or more Fellowship Chapel ministries that you are involved with ( i.e. SHYG, Choir, Xpressionz of Praise) 
4.  Submit a typed, double-spaced essay, 300-500 words, on: “What Inspired you as a Young Member of Fellowship Chapel and What Words of Wisdom do you have for the Fellowship Chapel Youth Coming Behind You?”

This scholarship was established in 2021 by Alison Vaughn, CEO of Jackets for Jobs. Jackets for Jobs’ is an award winning nonprofit organization that provides career skills training and cloth-ing to job seekers. It has been honored as one of the Best & Brightest Companies to Work for in Detroit. Ms.Vaughn would like to help students who have overcome challenges and shown the most improvement in high school. The applicant must be a high school graduate pursuing a major in Business and/or being an entrepreneur, but most of all have a desire to serve the community 

Criteria:

The Joseph William and Sallie Bell Jones Vocational Scholarship was created in 2021 by Vernon and Penelope Irvin. This scholarship honors the legacy of the parents of Penelope Jones-Irvin. Joseph and Sallie were self-starters and went to Vocational school to create a better life for their family. This scholarship is created in their memory as well as to allow others to do create a better life for themselves and their family. To support students who envision trade and or Vocational school as their best option. 

Criteria: 

1.  This scholarship is for new high school graduates, or students who are or will be attending technical, trade or vocational schools, or community college. 
2.  Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5 or above. 
3.  Provide evidence of leadership abilities in school, church or community. 
4.  Provide one (1) letter of recommendation from school official, mentor or employer. 
5.  Submit at least one (1) completed Community Service Form.

This scholarship, named in honor of Paul Robeson—Lecturer, Poet, Musician, Athlete, Activist—was established by the Paul Robeson Chorale in 2002. Applicant must show an interest in music or performing arts.

This scholarship was established in 2011 by Roslyn Banks in loving memory of her father, Robert V. Banks, Sr. Ms. Banks would like to help students who have overcome challenges and shown the most improvement in high school.

This scholarship was established in 2023 by member Reykeya Betty, a Postal Service employee of 26 years.  This award is for new high school graduates who are undecided about their career choice and who may be going into the workforce or a trade career.

1. Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School.
2. Submit proof of active involvement in one or more Fellowship groups or auxiliaries for at least one year.
3. Provide evidence of leadership abilities in school, church or community.
4. Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5 or above.

This scholarship was established by Rev. Dr. Constance Simon in 2014 in memory of William G. Simon. Mr. Simon, an excellent example of an entrepreneur, purchased his first property, The Fix-It-Shop, at age 17. He went on to become a licensed mechanical contractor, licensed auto mechanic, property owner and investor. He retired from General Motors as one of the first black Skilled Trades Plumbers. Mr. Simon was committed to Detroit and its residents. He loved people, believed in lifelong learning, mentoring youth, and giving back to those in need. The recipient of this scholarship must show an interest with plans to pursue a career in the Trades and/or being an entrepreneur, but most of all have a desire to serve the community. 

Criteria: 

1.  High School Graduate/ Post High School (completed two or more years ago) 
2.  Member of Fellowship Chapel 
3.  Submit proof of active involvement in one or more Fellowship Chapel groups or auxiliaries. 
4.  Provide one (1) letter of recommendation from school official, mentor or employer. 
5.  Submit at least one (1) completed Community Service Form. 
6.  Submit a typed, double-spaced, 250 word essay on “What it means to serve others“ 
7.  Set up an interview with Rev. Dr. Simon

The Shirley Ann McGee Sutton scholarship was established in 2021 by her family. Shirley was a retired teacher, member of Sigma Gamma Rho and Eastern Star Unity Chapter #28 member. The focus of the scholarship is to continue her legacy and her desire to promote the importance of education. This gives the family an opportunity to pour back into the community as she had poured into her family, friends and previous students. 

Criteria: 

1.  Graduate from a Metropolitan Detroit High School or current college student.
2.  Provide proof of current class registration or current transcript (for college students) OR  Provide letter of acceptance to the college or university you will be attending.
3.  Provide evidence of at least two (2) years of service at Fellowship (Church Service Verification form)
4.  Submit one (1) letter of recommendation from a school official, mentor or employer.
5.  Provide evidence of leadership abilities in school, church or community.
6.  Submit a typed, double-spaced, minimum 250 word essay on the importance of giving back.  How have you given back and what are your future plans to give back?
